Thrive in 2025 with Curriculum Aligned Dance Programs at REDed!

We may be settling into the 2025 school year, but the team at REDed have been busy as ever looking for new ways to inspire and engage young people by providing high quality, sustainable and accessible dance education – it’s what we’re most passionate about!

This year, we’ve made some exciting updates to our Curricular Programs by designing two distinct programs that achieve the learning outcomes related to movement dance prescribed by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority; one aligned with (PD)HPE and another aligned with Creative Arts.

“In 2025, we have made this shift to recognize the nuanced differences in the updated curriculum requirements and to support clear assessment goals. We understand the importance of aligning with syllabus expectations and are proud to provide this distinction to schools.”
– Kira Walker, REDed Curriculum Specialist

Across both our programs, our overarching First Nation Lens provides students with opportunities to explore and share through movement-based storytelling within a guided framework. With this in mind, we aim to support teachers by relieving the pressure of delivering dance as an essential element of the curriculum.

“The students loved the dances which were fresh, imaginative and achievable. I loved the curriculum… it made my job teaching combined ARTS so much better”
– Ellie Anderson-Gingold, Teacher

“While both programs feature our well-loved dance routines and movement tasks – designed to enhance coordination, teamwork, and emotional expression – they cater to different educational goals. (PD)HPE focuses on functional movement and challenges, and Creative Arts emphasizes communication through dance, storytelling, and artistic expression.” – Kira Walker, REDed Curriculum Specialist

Health and Physical Education

Our programs can support the teaching of the Health and Physical Education syllabus through creative and expressive functional movement practices, processes, and learning outcomes. In designing our program, we’ve made sure that our routines help students perform fundamental movement skills, including locomotor and non-locomotor movement, as well as age appropriate movement challenges which promote group problem-solving and critical thinking.

This program features distinctive progression pathways between each year group and stage, ensuring a structured and cohesive learning experience. By facilitating discussion and activities centred on the elements of dance, we help students learn how to utilise space, time, objects, effort and people when performing movement sequences. But more than this, we know how to encourage students to foster interpersonal skills through group participation in our sessions, highlighting the importance of both physical activity, and social connection through dance.

Creative Arts – Dance

Our programs can also be tailored to support the teaching of the The Arts – Dance syllabus, with a focus on Dance through creative movement practices, storytelling, and composition tasks. We’ve designed our sessions to ensure that students use the elements of dance in all routines, games and composition activities, providing a framework to assist them in communicating their intent. We intentionally sprinkle in specialised vocabulary that helps students describe their movement and appreciate contrast in stylistic choices from their first composition to final performance.

Like our Health and Physical Education program, we also ensure there are distinctive progression pathways between each year group and stage by scaffolding the introduction of dance terminology, introducing more complex movement concepts and technique to help with creative expression and controlled movement, leading to enhanced performance quality both for individual students and the group as a whole.

Curricular Programs in action

We’ve been off to a flying start with our programs across the country! We’re thrilled to already be introducing a Semester 1 PDHPE program at St Michael’s Daceyville and Sacred Heart Matraville, and bringing the CArts Curricular stream to these schools in Semester 2, to further build student’s artistic and expressive exploration of dance. We also can’t wait for our 1 Day workshop with Mossgiel Park PS and of course a PDHPE Program with Wahroonga Prep!

The REDed Difference

With over 25 years of dance education expertise, we understand the vital role that dance plays in the personal development of young people. What really makes REDed’s Curricular Programs stand out is our ability to attend to a variety of learning needs, keeping students engaged and, most importantly, having fun! Unlike many external providers, our team is trained not only in dance but also in effective classroom management, ensuring every session runs smoothly. We’ve got a knack for managing large groups and keeping energy levels high, while making sure focus is prioritised so that students are learning and thoroughly enjoying themselves

With REDed, schools can rest easy knowing that their students are getting top-notch without the extra stress of handling classroom dynamics, letting teachers focus on what they do best – teaching!

“The REDed program is such an engaging program. I watch the kids, they are all smiling and happy – all participating at the same time. I don’t see any child want to sit down, they are thoroughly engaged.” – Julie Degan, Teacher
